farsightedness

Improve your vision naturally by using these tried-and-tested eye exercises for farsightedness, and throw away your glasses!

“The emphasis on compensatory lenses has posed a problem for many years in our examinations. These lenses do not correct anything and may not serve the patient in his best interests over a period of time.” … CJ. Forkiortis, OEP Curriculum

Corrective lenses correct refraction of light but do nothing to heal or correct eye problems. In fact, corrective lenses, in Bates’ opinion, and that of many others, actually harmed and interfered with the ability of the eye to correct vision.

The eye exercises illustrated here really work! And it will work for you too… BUT you need to build it into your daily routine.

Don’t expect your vision to improve overnight, although many other vision correction programmes claim that they do.

The way to better vision is really depend on YOU.

If you are determined to follow through the exercises daily, your vision will improve.

Test for Farsightedness (Hypermetropia)

People who have farsightedness or hypermedtropia can see distant objects very well, but have difficulty seeing objects that are up close.

1. To test for farsightedness, you would need both the Distant Vision Chart and the Near Vision Chart. Do not use your glasses or contact lenses.

2. Place the distant vision chart on the wall at eye level. Make sure the chart is well-illuminated.

3. Make marking where you are twenty feet from the chart. Position yourself there.

4. Hold the near vision chart at a specified distance:

  • For children and adults below 40, – six inches from the eyes.
  • For adults forty to fifty years old – fourteen inches from the eyes.
  • For adults above fifty – twenty inches from the eyes.

5. Cover your left eye with the left palm.

6. Look at the near vision chart. Focus if you could. Can you see the smallest print easily?

7. Shift your gaze to the distant vision chart. Can you see all the letters clearly? Continue to look at the distant vision chart for about 30 seconds.

8. Shift your gaze quickly to the near vision chart. Now, is the smallest print clear? Does the print become clear after a while? Do you need to move the near vision chart slight away so that you can read the smallest print?

9. Is reading the distant vision chart easier for you?

10. Repeat the above with your left eye. Cover your right eye with your right palm.

Evaluation of Your Test

If you can see both the near and distant charts at once, congratulation, you probably do not have farsightedness.

When shifting the gaze from far to near, if you take some time to see near vision chart clearly, or if you need to move the near vision chart away, or if the smallest print is not clear, you have low to moderate farsightedness.

If you can’t read the distant chart clearly and you have greater difficulty for near than for distance, you have high farsightedness.

If you age is around 40 years old and if you have just started to experience difficulty for near vision, your may have a special type of hypermteropia, known as presbyopia.

When people develop presbyopia, they find they need to hold books, magazines, newspapers, menus and other reading materials at arm’s length in order to focus properly. When they perform near work, such as embroidery or handwriting, they may have headaches or eyestrain, or feel fatigued.

Presbyopia is caused by an age-related process. This is different from astigmatism, nearsightedness and farsightedness. Presbyopia is generally believed to stem from a gradual loss of flexibility in the natural lens inside your eye.

Guidelines for Eye Exercises

Before we go on to the eye exercises for farsightedness, there are a few points to take note of:

1. First, read and understand the steps of each eye exercise carefully.

2. Do not use glasses or contact unless you are instructed to.

3. Do the eye exercises in in non-glaring light. Vision chart or targets should be well lit at all times.

4. If the eye exercise requires you to close the eye, do so gently.

5. Do not strain your eyes while doing the eye exercise. The result would be better if you do not strain your eyes.

6. Rest your eyes after each eye exercise, and also at the end of the whole eye exercise. To relax your eyes, perform the eye relaxation exercises.

7. As our eyes are tired after a whole-day work, early morning is the best time for eye exercises.

8. If you do not have enough time to complete all the eye exercises for farsightedness, you can do some in the morning and finish the rest in the later part of the day.

9. Learn about the different stages that you will experience when you begin to build your visual habits: The different stages as you build your visual habit.
